Welcome Letter

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

The new school year is once again upon us and with that comes new responsibilities for teachers, parents, and students. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. We are about to embark in a year filled with academic and social growth for our students and I’m pleased to be given the chance to work with your child. Following I will provide you with a quick introduction of myself, I will explain the behavior management plan that will be implemented in our class, and I will briefly explain the most crucial parts of fourth grade.

I will be your child’s teacher for Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. I taught fourth grade for 3 years at Bob Graham Education Center. I am excited to begin my 4th year in such a wonderful and new school. I am currently working on a Master’s in Reading so I will always be implementing new reading strategies to help your child with his/her comprehension skills. On a more personal level, I’m currently married and a mommy to an 18 ½ month old baby girl.  I enjoy teaching and making a difference in every child’s learning.

Our behavior management plan revolves around the idea that students should be rewarded for individual, small group, and whole class accomplishments. Along with rewards for positive behaviors come consequences for negative behavior.  The students’ numbers will be displayed on a behavior chart. The students will be responsible for keeping their number on superstar. If the student keeps his/her number on superstar the whole week they will receive a ticket for a class raffle that will take place on Fridays. Students may also receive raffle tickets for positive behavior throughout the week. Attendance is very important so please make sure your child comes to school everyday so the whole class can be rewarded for perfect attendance.  There are many aspects to fourth grade but the most significant part is the emphasis on writing. Students will be responsible for writing an essay in the FCAT this year and lots of preparation will go into this. All in all, we are in for one exciting school year and I hope this information will give you an idea of how our class will function. If you have any question or would like to meet with me please contact the school and I will promptly return your call. I am looking forward to working closely with you and your child.

Sincerely, Mrs. Vidal lourdes_vidal@dadeschools.net
